Problem:
According to the Lennox School District NCA/AdvancED plan, students who are deemed advanced need to be challenged so they can continue to do so.
Question:
Will incorporating 21st Century Skills and tools keep advanced students motivated and continue to thrive and not get complacent in school?
Plan:
I will conduct informal evaluations on my staff and their daily use of implementing 21st century skills in their classroom. After finding skills that are low, I will provide professional development to increase knowledge of how to implement the skills.
Reflection:
After going through this year trying to get teachers to become more alert of how their teaching can be easier with the implementation of technology as a tool and using vaious programs to enhance education, I conclude that teachers are willing to change when they see positive results. Some accept change easier than others, but when a community of teaching and learning is established, those with a harder willingness to change become easier to change because they see everyone else doing it and having success with it. This year, Worthing Elementary teachers have been introduced to and maintained in their classrooms; PhotoStory 3, Glogster, Movie Maker, collaborative grouping, creativity with the programs mentioned, and giving students more responsibility in their learning. With the incorporation of 21st century skills, I believe ALL students were motivated to learn. Teachers are changing to allow thier students to succeed in an every changing world.
Implication for Future Work:
I like the informal evaluation sheet I use when visiting classrooms. However, I may change it a little so teachers can fill it out and tell me what was covered in the 10-15 minutes I was in their classroom. I am defititely going to be using Jordan Braa again this year for trainings on programs that will make teachers jobs easier and more enjoyable for themselves and their students.
